The Niagara County Sheriff’s Department has introduced a new online tool for the public to learn about sex offenders living in their neighborhoods.

Sheriff Thomas Beilein announced on Wednesday that the public can now access the new county sex offender registry site by visiting and clicking on the link for sex offender information.

Site visitors are able to type in their home address and see a map of sex offenders living within a one-mile radius of their home. The site allows visitors to get details about these offenders, such as their age, description and information about their crimes.

Visitors can also sign up to receive E-mail alerts when a sex offender moves within one mile of their home. Visitors can receive E-mails about more than one address — allowing parents to keep an eye on the neighborhoods around their children’s schools or playgrounds.
