With the conclusion of Sunday’s Cayuga Lady Luck 10-U Tournament at Cayuga’s 93rd Street diamonds in Niagara Falls, the Cayuga Youth Athletic Association is busy gearing up for its “showcase tournament of the year,” the Lady Luck 16-U tourney, July 13-15.

Tournament director Jason Mosher said 20 teams from five states and two countries will compete in Niagara Falls. Times will be determined shortly, he said.

In the 14-U finals on Sunday, the top-seeded Mississauga North Tigers defeated the No. 2 seed New Era Diamond Girls, 6-2.

The winning pitcher was tournament Most Valuable Player Hailey MacArthur.

Semifinal scores were Mississauga 10, Rochester Revenge 0; and New Era 12, Lancaster Heat 0. In the quarterfinals, Rochester beat the Cayuga Gamblers 13-9, Lancaster defeated the North Buffalo Wildcats 6-4, Mississauga downed the West Seneca Magic 10-0 and New Era beat the Western New York Sting 9-1.

Cayuga Majors

Samantha Barone had three hits, including a triple, and three RBIs as the Stuart Sports Red Sox beat the Niagara Falls Teachers Braves 15-14. Samantha Guthrie had four hits and scored three times. Shelby Guthrie had two hits. Allison Grant pitched three scoreless innings. Rachel Hempel had two hits and two RBIs for the Braves.

n Jenna Bianco had two hits and four RBIs for the Skizzors Hair Design Angels in a 7-6 win over the Just In Tyme Yankees. Felicia Scarfone added a solo home run. Mallory Soto doubled home two runners. Alexis Lepine struck out six batters. Maria Sciarrino had three hits for the Yankees.


Interleague Majors

Taylor Huntsman, Amer Myles, R.J. Zey and Steve Conklin all had home runs as the Sottile Phillies from the Whirlpool League beat the Harris and Lever Yankees 18-6. Huntsman and Chris Simmons each had four hits. Myles, Zey, Conklin and Dan Gallagher all had three hits. Michael Gabriele had two hits for the Yankees and Brandon Johnson hit a home run.

Cayuga Majors

Nick Yarnssi’s one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove home the winning run for the Niagara Falls Teachers Indians, who topped the Justin Tyme On The River Orioles 8-7. Vince Hout and Joe Ayers each had two hits and Jonathan Voyey struck out six batters. Frank Shoners had four hits for the Orioles.

Cayuga Minors

Vincenette LaGamba, Dillon Mariglia and Brandon Stachowski all had three hits as the J.R. Swanson Marlins beat the IBEW Local 237 Pirates 12-6. Katrina Labin and Deion Harris each had three hits for the Marlins.

n Casey Gruarin had three hits, including a home run and a triple, for the J.R. Swanson Plumbing Marlins in a 7-4 win over the Stuart Sports Red Sox. Cody Bielic had two triples and a single. Jennie Mercilliott and Lyric McDonnell each had two hits. Matthew Grace and Patrick Sisler each had two hits for the Red Sox.
