When it comes to soccer instruction, it doesn’t get any better than Lockport High School boys varsity coach Jeff Hulshoff and his assistant, former LHS great Doug Zimmerman.

The dynamic duo, who continue to uphold the long LHS tradition of blue and gold soccer excellence, will be joined by a host of other soccer coaches and players at the 2007 Lockport Soccer Camp, July 9-23 at LHS.

Hulshoff returns as director at the camp, which is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 13.

He’ll be assisted, among others, by Zimmerman, LHS junior varsity coach Mike Finnerty, his daughter, former Lady Lions player and local teacher Jessica Hulshoff, as well as members of the LHS boys and girls varsity and JV squads.

Broken down into three, one-week sessions, all camp activities will be held at LHS on Lincoln Avenue.

Session I is July 9-13, session II is July 16-20 and session III is July 23-27. All participants are asked to come prepared with shin pads, a water bottle and a soccer ball.

The cost of the camp is $50 per player, per session, with cost adjustments made for more than one family member signing up or for those participating in more than one session. Checks should be made payable to Jeff Hulshoff, 121 Independence Drive, Lockport NY 14094.

Each session will begin promptly at 2 p.m. and end at 4 p.m., Hulshoff said.

“Each session is open to the first 75 kids who sign up. Areas of instruction will center on principles of offensive and defensive play, footwork, dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting and technical and tactical play. Small side games and other activities are also planned,” he said.

Parents or guardians are responsible to provide medical insurance for the camp, which is co-sponsored by the Lockport Board of Education and the Lockport Sunrise Optimist Club
