New Niagara University men's basketball coach Patrick Beilein is away from the team after undergoing back surgery, he shared in a Twitter post Thursday.
The 36-year-old Beilein, who was hired by Niagara on March 28, tweeted a picture of himself in a chair at the University of Michigan hospitals.
"Making progress after a minor setback with back surgery. Can’t wait to get back on the court in a couple weeks with my guys," he wrote.
Beilein's father, Burt native John Beilein, was the head men's basketball coach at Michigan for 12 seasons before leaving this summer to take over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Niagara is just over two months from its 2019-20 opener, Nov. 8 at Drexel.
