The Niagara University Purple Eagles certainly didn’t have a lot of time to savor their first Metro Atlantic win of theseason.

The Purple Eagles (4-9 overall, 1-4 MAAC), fresh off of Thursday’s 78-73 home win over Fairfield, host the surprising Loyola Greyhounds at 7 p.m. today at the Gallagher Center. Loyola, which went 6-22 overall last season and 5-13 in the MAAC, enters tonight’s game with a 10-3 overall mark and a4-1 MAAC record.

“That’s the way our conference schedule is,” Niagara coach Joe Mihalich said. “You usually play two games in a weekend, so we don’t have time to enjoy the win.”

This will be the second meeting in eight days between the two teams. Loyola was an 82-70 winner over Niagara in Baltimore on Jan. 6.

Loyola comes into the Gallagher Center riding a three-game wining streak. The greyhounds poured in 58 second-half points in a 95-80 winner at Canisius on Thursday.

One of the big reason for the success of the Greyhounds is the impact of a pair of transfers from the University of Maryland.

Senior Andre Collins Collins is second in the nation in scoring, averaging 27.1 points per game. Collins, who had 26 points against Canisius, has led the Greyhounds in scoring every game this season.

Junior forward Hassan Fofana is averaging 12.3 points and 7.4 rebounds fro the Greyhounds.

Niagara used a balanced attack in the win over Fairfield, as six players scored in double figures, led by J.R. Duffey’s 18 points. The Purple Eagles got a big contribution from their own transfer, as Clif Brown, who came to Niagara from Kent State, posted his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Following tonight’s game, Niagara travels to Canisius at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

n The Niagara women (2-12, 1-4) are at Marist at 7 p.m. today for a MAAC game.

Niagara is coming off a 49-43 loss at Rider on Thursday despite a career-high 19 points from Michelle Manfredi.

After tonight’s game, Niagara is at Canisius at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
