This is a season of special anniversaries for soccer at Lewiston-Porter.

The Lew-Port girls soccer program will celebrate 40 years this fall while the Lew-Port/Niagara Pioneer Soccer League alumni game will be held for the 30th time.

The Lady Lancers will celebrate program history at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the high school's Elia Field. Coaches and players from the inaugural 1979 team, including coach Dena Elia Armstrong and captains Ellen Morris and Joy Adamson Khatib, will be present. All alumni are invited to attend.

A presentation will be made by the Lewiston-Porter Central School district. Head coach Norm Forney and the 2019 team will serve as hosts of the event.

"To get a sense of the proud soccer soccer tradition here at Lewiston-Porter, all you have to do is glance up at the west wall in the gym at the banners which are littered with the league and sectional dominance of the program," Forney wrote in a letter to the L-P soccer community.

This week, the L-P/NPSL will host its 30th annual alumni game. Open to all alumni, male and female, of Lew-Port or the NPSL, the game will start at 3 p.m. Saturday at Elia Field.

There will be a reception immediately following the game at Lake Town Park in Youngstown. Any money raised at the event will fund two scholarships for current Lew-Port seniors.
