The Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles 9U travel baseball team got off to a winning start in its 2014 Clarence Travel League regular season, defeating Lancaster/Depew 14-0 last weekend at Pletcher Park in Lewiston.

Vinny Carlo, Rocco Randazzo and Christian Ruta combined to allow just three hits and strike out 15 batters. MIchael Baio drove three runs home with a double, while Randazzo also had three RBI. Carlo and Nolan Szczesniak had two hits each.

• The Jr. Purple Eagles 15U team won its Clarence Travel league opener at Washuta Park in Lewiston, defeating the Cheektowaga Knights, 10-2. Austin Wentz went five innings on the mound, allowing three hits while striking out seven batters. Dylan Mort went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Wentz, Nate Waterstram, Vince Colosi and Bob Merino had one hit each. 

• The NCCC 12U Jr. Thunderwolves opened their Clarence Travel League season sweeping a doubleheader against two opponents. In the first game, 

The NCCC 12U Jr Thunderwolves won a pair of games on opening day in the Clarence Travel League. In the first game, Vince Capolupo, Cooper Krawczyk and Ian Evans combined for eight strikeouts while allowing just two hits in a 12-0 win over North Tonawanda American Babe Ruth. 

In the second game, the Thunderwolves topped Lou Gehrig by a 16-6 score. Cal Shifflet, Krawzyk and Evans combined to allow just four hits while striking out nine batters. Evans went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and five RBI. Shifflet went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Joe Lozina went 2-for-2 with three RBI.

• The Jr. Thunderwolves 13U team was also victorious in its Clarence Travel League season opener, defeating Buffalo Rockpile, 8-6. James Filippelli, Cam Dabill and Patrick McCann combined on the mound for the win. At the plate, Aiden O’Lay went 3-for-4.


The Flyers got their first win of the Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles spring Squirt house league, rallying from a four-goal deficit to beat the Pirates, 5-4. The game-winning goal came with just 14 seconds remaining.

Joey Genovese had a hat trick for the Flyers, while Braden Muldoon had two goals and two assists. Picking up assists were Jacob Lapresta, Chas Richner and Peter Schwagler.

Gavin Cirillo scored three goals for the Pirates while Samuel Jayme had the team’s other goal.
