She might be the new kid in town at Ransomville Speedway, but sports reporter Stephanie Ohol is quite a familiar and experienced face on the local racing circuit.

One of the top interns at Greater Niagara Newspapers over the past two years, Ohol brings knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to a sport that continues to gain unprecedented popularity.

The Syracuse University student is a breath of fresh air everywhere she goes and her creative writing speaks for itself. Her stories at Ransomville Speedway last year were not only interesting, they were amazingly — for the most part — self-generated.

It’s no secret that Stephanie was always one my favorite interns. She’s a great person with a lot on the ball and a promising future in a sport that needs more women like her who can bring a fresh and unique perspective to reporting.

Look for Stephanie’s features and track notes throughout the upcoming summer seasons at both Ransomville and Lancaster speedways.

Too bad that Friday night’s Modified and Sportsman division races were rained out at the Big R. However, the top four Modified points leaders at Ransomville remain local men, led by Scott Kerwin of Newfane (160), who has a 10-point lead over Sanborn’s Rich Vinson (150). Vinson’s neighbor (and one of Ohol’s favorites) Chad Brachmann is in third (148), followed by Lockport’s Robbie Krull (146).

Hats off to Mike Williams of Lewiston, who captured his first feature win of the season in the Pro Stock Division.

And who has more spunk than Tana Robinson? Nobody. There’s almost nothing that could keep Tana from doing what she loves and she proves it week after week. Despite recent surgery, Tana, is still all smiles and as helpful and hard working as ever at the track and from her home when we need her.

This Friday night, catch the Lucas Oil Shoot-Out 50-lap Modified feature as well as a full card of racing, as well as fireworks. Racing begins at 7:15 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m.
