On behalf of all the members of the Memorial team, we’d like to thank the Department of Community Development, Mayor Vince Anello and the Niagara Falls City Council for including Memorial Medical Center’s Schoellkopf Park restoration plan in the recently approved 2006 Community Development Block Grant Budget.

While we didn’t get the level of funding we had hoped for, we are encouraged by the fact that the city appreciates the value of this project for the entire community. In addition, we remain hopeful that this will be the first year of a multiple-year granting of federal funds so we can restore the park in its entirely.

Although we will need to extend our timelines, we will continue to seek additional funding sources while working with the city and with Senior City Planner Tom DeSantis’ urban planning students from the University of Buffalo to prioritize the phases of this restoration in a way that delivers visible results.

We are particularly grateful to the nearly 600 members of the Greater Niagara community who sent letters of support for this project to Mayor Anello, the City Council and the Department of Community Development.
