A pair of state thruway projects will impact local drivers this weekend and next week.
The state Thruway Authority announced emergency roadwork between I-90 exit 48A, Pembroke-Medina-Route 77, and exit 48, Batavia, will begin today.
The work will begin at 7 a.m. and continue through 6 a.m. Monday, weather dependent. Isolated pavement repairs are to be performed on both eastbound lanes. There will be single lane closures and a posted work zone speed limit of 45 mph.
In addition, the first phase of the southbound north Grand Island Bridge deck replacement project is set to begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
The right lane of the southbound bridge will be closed overnight Tuesday through Thursday.
In April, the Niagara Thruway (I-190) southbound North Grand Island Bridge will be closed to traffic Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., except for holidays. For most of June, July and August, the southbound bridge will be closed to traffic Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
During the overnight closures of the southbound bridge, southbound entrance ramps from Buffalo Avenue and the Robert Moses Parkway will also be closed. Motorists should follow the posted detour route to Niagara Falls Boulevard.
