Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a structure fire on Youngstown-Lockport Road Tuesday. Deputies said no one was injured.

Upon arrival, deputies observed an unattached garage fully engulfed by flames with no one inside. Ransomville Fire Co. personnel were on scene in attempting to contain the fire.

An occupant of the home said that while he was welding parts to his 1995 Honda Civic for a race at Ransomville speedway, “a small fire started in the trunk.” The man said he immediately attempted to extinguish the fire and went inside the home nearby for dinner.

“Approximately 30 minutes later, he went outside ... and observed the fire inside the garage,” the report said.

After attempting to extinguish it again, it got out of control and the man called 911.

An estimated $17,000 of damage was done to the fully furnished garage, deputies said.
