A 10-year-old boy from the Town of Pendleton died Wednesday after a tunnel he was digging in a snow pile collapsed on him.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office confirmed the fatality which occurred at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday on Aiken Road. A release from the sheriff's office identified the incident as a cardiac arrest.
Deputies said it appeared as if the boy was digging a tunnel into a snow pile against a building on the premises when the snow collapsed on him.
After law enforcement officials and emergency medical staff arrived on the scene, the child was transported by Twin City Ambulance to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The incident is being investigated by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Bureau but the Sheriff's Office said it appears to be accidental.
The identify of the victim was not released pending notification of family members.
