While Niagara Falls police search for two gunmen, detectives are trying to piece together a picture of who the city’s latest homicide victim was, hoping that may gives them some leads to his killers.

“We have received information from the public and we’ll be following up on that,” Detective Capt. Ernest Palmer said Sunday night.

Investigators are still struggling to determine a motive for the murder of Deion Wood, Palmer said. Wood, 27, 563 24th St., was gunned down as he sat on a porch in the 1900 block of Ferry Avenue early Saturday morning.

“He was parolee,” Palmer said. “So we’ll be in contact with his parole officer to see what he can tell us.”

Palmer confirmed that, in addition to calls from the public since the slaying, investigators have been “contacted by other law enforcement agencies” regarding Wood.

Beyond that detectives have been tight-lipped about other details of their case.

Officers responded to a call of “shots fired” and found Wood in front of the home where he had been sitting on the porch with a woman. Two suspects had approached Wood and opened fire with what was reported to be a silver handgun.

Police said Wood “suffered multiple gunshot wounds” to his lower body and neighbors reported hearing at least five shots and then seeing two men, dressed in black clothing, running from the scene.

The suspects were last seen in the 500 block of 20th Street getting into a dark four-door vehicle.

Wood was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
