There was more than coffee brewing in Phil Anello’s kitchen on Friday night.

Falls narcotics detectives found 2 ounces of powdered cocaine in Anello’s coffee maker after executing a search warrant at his home on Friday night. They also seized 9 ounces of marijuana and 47 Hydrocodone pills.

Anello, 27, 824 17th St., was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of marijuana and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.

When members of the department’s Emergency Response Team, along with narcotics investigators, arrived at his home, Anello was in the backyard, attempted to make a getaway. He was taken into custody after a brief chase, at which point he told officers, “I don’t want to go to jail tonight.”

Detectives said Anello had been dealing significant amounts of cocaine and other drugs.

“We had a lot of complaints that he was dealing out of the bars,” Narcotics Division Detective Lt. Kelly Rizzo said. “So we started investigating him around six months ago.”

Rizzo said Narcotics Detective Tom Fournier handled the case.

Anello, who is the nephew of Falls Mayor Vince Anello, was released from custody after posting a cash bail of $7,500. He is due back in court Jan. 22 for a preliminary hearing.

This isn’t the first time Anello has run into drug-related trouble. He was arrested in April 2000 on charges of third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

That case was handled in Niagara County Court, after a county grand jury indicted him on the charges. Records do not show how the case was resolved, but Anello was sentenced to five years probation on Dec. 12, 2000.

He was given an early discharge from probation on March 15, 2004.
