A granite monument featuring the names of 550 Lewiston veterans will be unveiled during a ceremony on Monday, Veterans Day.
Organizers say the Lewiston Veterans of Foreign Wars Circle of Honor will be officially dedicated with a dramatic under-the-lights unveiling at 6:15 p.m. on Veterans Day at Academy Park.
The ceremony will feature a “Procession of History” that will chronicle military service from the Revolution War to the Iraq War. Students from Lewiston-Porter will also highlight the event by singing the National Anthem.
Under the eternal flame, you’ll see the words, “America’s flame burns brightly, fueled by the courage and sacrifice of those who have defended our freedoms.”
In addition, a limited edition commemorative 55-cent stamp, featuring the Lewiston Veterans of Foreign Wars Circle of Honor in Academy Park, has been issued by the U.S. Postal Service.
The stamp depicts an image of the bronze bald eagle which stands above the center pillar of the memorial and the American flag that flies behind it. The stamp also includes the inscription, "Lewiston VFW Circle of Honor," and the date 2019.
