Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies, with the assistance of the Niagara Falls Police K-9 Unit have captured a fugitive sought for his role in a car crash that left a Lewiston woman seriously injured.

Acting on a tip, deputies and Falls Police K-9 officer Mike Bird and his partner Pharaoh surrounded a trailer around 1:45 a.m. Sunday at 1894 Upper Mountain Road, looking for Alan Sahr. When Sahr ran from the trailer, he was chased by Pharaoh and caught in a nearby wooded area.

As officers attempted to take Sahr into custody, someone fired two shots at them from a short distance away. No officers, nor Pharaoh were hurt by the gunfire.

Sahr had been sought since a one-car crash that happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday in the Town of Lewiston.

A 2000 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Sahr, 23, of Ransomville, was traveling northbound on Walmore Road when the vehicle left the roadway on the east shoulder and hit a tree. The vehicle flipped over and a passenger, Colleen Moses, 24, of Lewiston, was ejected.

Moses was taken by Mercy Flight to the Erie County Medical Center.

Sahr, who is on parole, fled from the scene at the time of the crash.
