A young teen was flown to Buffalo by Mercy Flight after he was hit by a car while riding his ATV on Dickersonville Road Sunday morning.

The unidentified youth was hit about 11:20 a.m., according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Sheriff’s deputies, the youth was riding his ATV south with other off-road vehicles when the youth made a U-turn in front of the car, which was also traveling southbound.

The car’s driver said they were unable to avoid the youth and struck the ATV, deputies said.

The 13-year-old ATV driver, who was found lying on the roadway, was flown to Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo with head, chest and leg injuries.

His condition was unavailable Sunday night.

Deputies said the driver of the car was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for an evaluation as well.

In addition to the Sheriff’s Department, Lewiston police, Lewiston No. 1 Fire Co. and Upper Mountain Fire Co. responded to the scene as well.

The Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Unit is continuing to look at the incident.
