The Niagara County Sheriff's Office announced Friday the arrest of an Appleton woman who is charged with taking a large amount of money from a church food pantry.
Ofelia Carmona, 53, was charged on Thursday with one count of scheme to defraud and third-degree grand larceny.
An investigation by the sheriff's criminal investigation bureau was launched following the discovery of a "large amount of missing funds" from the Migrant Ministry Food Pantry at First Baptist Church in Newfane.
Carmona is a former director and was responsible for the management of the food pantry funds, according to the sheriff's office. The exact amount of funds taken was not revealed.
