Deported man nabbed at bridge
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have arrested a Nigerian man, who was previously deported from the states, but tried to sneak back in over the Rainbow Bridge.
Officers working at the bridge, on March 14, said Hakeem Akinyosoye, 50, a Nigerian citizen from Brampton, Ont., gave them a valid Canadian passport bearing another name and told them he was on his way to the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport to drop off a friend.
Agents referred Akinyosoye for a secondary inspection and discovered he was traveling under a stolen identity and that he had a lengthy criminal record, including multiple charges of fraud in both Canada and the United States.
Further investigation revealed Akinyosoye had previously been ordered removed from the United States by an immigration judge in September 1993. He was physically deported from the United States back to his home country of Nigeria in March 1994.
Akinyosoye was arrested by CBP officers and charged with reentry after removal.
