Plans to offer flights from Niagara Falls International Airport to Ireland have been grounded — at least for now.

Kenny Tours, Ltd., the Maryland-based company that had hoped to begin offering weekly flights from Niagara Falls to Shannon, Ireland, in June, has been forced to postpone its efforts until at least next year, according to a spokesperson for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority.

“They just could not secure the aircraft needed to support their service,” said Doug Hartmeyer, director of public affairs for the NFTA.

Hartmeyer said company officials and representatives from the NFTA remain hopeful that a deal can eventually be struck to allow Kenny Tours to begin offering flights from Niagara Falls starting in 2009.

“We are going to continue to have dialogue with them and other airlines,” Hartmeyer said.

A representative from Kenny Tours said the company’s owner, Deirdre Kenny, was traveling and unavailable for comment on Thursday.
