YOUNGSTOWN — Two employees of the RCR Yachts pulled a man to safety from the swift waters of the lower Niagara River in Youngstown last month, according to a recently released report from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies reported that about 5 p.m. June 13, a man was spotted in the river near the Youngstown Yacht Club yelling for help. Before emergency responders arrived, two men from RCR Yachts — identified as James Jaremka and James Egloff — rescued him using a small boat.
The man said he had fallen in the water upriver while kayaking and had floated about 600 to 900 yards in the swift-moving water before being able to grab onto a sailboat mooring ball rope. He said he had been in the water for about 30 minutes.
The man was evaluated by members of the Youngstown Fire Co. but declined being taken to the hospital.
