While itâs great to see Niagara University pouring millions of dollars into renovations at Dwyer Arena and a new synthetic turf field for soccer and womenâs lacrosse, itâs still a shame that the school hasnât considered adding menâs lacrosse to its athletic offering.
Lacrosse is the largest growing sport in the country, not to mention Western New Yorkâs increased notoriety among collegiate coaches. Just look at the local pool of players NU could pull from â powerhouses such as Orchard Park and Niagara-Wheatfield, plus growing Niagara Frontier programs such as Lockport and North Tonawanda.
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has menâs lacrosse, so the conference wouldnât be an issue. The way I see it Title IX and equal scholarships for men and women is the lone hold-up. I imagine there could be ways to make ends meet, though.
