While it’s great to see Niagara University pouring millions of dollars into renovations at Dwyer Arena and a new synthetic turf field for soccer and women’s lacrosse, it’s still a shame that the school hasn’t considered adding men’s lacrosse to its athletic offering.

Lacrosse is the largest growing sport in the country, not to mention Western New York’s increased notoriety among collegiate coaches. Just look at the local pool of players NU could pull from — powerhouses such as Orchard Park and Niagara-Wheatfield, plus growing Niagara Frontier programs such as Lockport and North Tonawanda.

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has men’s lacrosse, so the conference wouldn’t be an issue. The way I see it Title IX and equal scholarships for men and women is the lone hold-up. I imagine there could be ways to make ends meet, though.
