GASPORT — The 18th annual Salt and Light Festival will take place on the grounds of Solid Rock Assembly of God Church, 8590 Rochester Road, from Friday through Sunday.
Festival highlights by the day include:
• FRIDAY — The main event is a "Hamilton" showcase by students from Mel's School of Music and Theater performing music from the Broadway show. Beforehand, at 6:45 p.m., festival guest speaker Kristen Anderson will be introduced and Buffalo Adult and Teen Challenge will give a brief presentation.
• SATURDAY— Second annual "Voice Box" singing competition semi finals at 10 a.m.; Buffalo Adult & Teen Challenge presentation on winning the battle against substance abuse and addictions at 5:30 p.m.; concert by national recording stars The Peyton Sisters at 6:30 p.m.; and a special address by motivational speaker Kristen Anderson at 7:30 p.m. Anderson, who attempted suicide at the age of 17, travels around the country to tell her story and suggest to young people how to escape the grip of depression.
• SUNDAY — Worship service under the big tent with special musical guests and speakers at 10 a.m.;Voice Box finals at 1 p.m. ($3,000 of cash and prizes will be awarded to the best soloists 12 and younger and 13 and older, and the best duet); and an encore show by The Peyton Sisters at 5 p.m.
All day Saturday, there will be bounce houses, slides, games including a scavenger hunt, and live action cartoon characters roaming the festival grounds. A craft and vendor show and a classic car cruise-in are ongoing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Food and refreshments will be sold; Gasport Lions Club is selling barbecued chicken dinners beginning at noon. A giant basket raffle display starts at 10 a.m. and winners will be drawn at 4:30 p.m.; winners must be present.
Admission, parking and participation in events all are free. Seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs. The festival is smoke- and alcohol-free and will take place rain or shine. No animals are allowed except certified service dogs.
