Brittany Bisnott and Chiara Greco had goals as the Niagara women’s soccer team improved to 3-2 on the season with a win at Detroit (0-5). Sarah Stephens and Ashleigh Bowers shared the shutout.
“Were were the better team today,” coach Peter Veltri said. “We played well and kept possession of the ball and got the result we deserved.”
Bisnott scored in the 41st minute off a pass from Stephanie Gartley. The preseason MAAC player of the year, Bisnott now has four goals in five games and leads the conference with nine points.
Greco scored her second goal of the season on a 25-yard shot in the 59th minute.
Maine 3, Buffalo 0
The Bulls fell to 1-3-1 with a shutout defeat on the first night of the UB Fall Classic. Andrea Vescio led the Bulls with three shots on goal.
Men’s Soccer
Niagara 1, St. Francis 0
Desmond Betteto’s first career goal led the the Purple Eagles first win of the season in Brooklyn. Billy Bustafson and Miles Patteson assisted on the game-winner.
“This was a gutsy performance by the team,” coach Dermot McGrane said. “We showed a lot of character tonight to hold on late in the game when St. Francis was throwing a lot of players forward. Once we scored, we played smart and absorbed a lot of pressure.”
John Fiutowski earned the shutout in goal.
Buffalo 2, St. Bonaventure 1
Dan Gwyther scored the game-winning goal in the 21st minute of overtime as the Bulls won their fourth straight game. Alex Marrello also scored for UB (4-2). The Bonnies are now 1-3-1.
