090103 Seyler record02

Patrick McPartland/Contributor Niagara Falls, NY - Lewiston-Porter’s Robby Seyler ended up breaking the Lew-Port all time career scoring record on Jan. 3, 2009 against Niagara Catholic.

Some of the area’s finest senior boys basketball players will get one of their final runs as a prep Saturday.

The Butler Mitchell Alumni Association will host the 11th annual Silver Hoops Classic, featuring three games throughout the afternoon at the Grabiarz School of Excellence in Buffalo.

“If you are a Western New York high school basketball junkie, this day is perfect for you,” event organizer Mike Nagorski said. “It’s also a great chance for any college coach to preview any possible (recruits).”

Game one, featuring the Niagara Frontier League all-stars against the ECIC I all-stars, will tip at 12:30 p.m. The NFL roster, which will be coached by Kenmore West’s Jim Badgley and Jay Robbins of Kenmore East, includes Robby Seyler (Lewiston-Porter), Vinnie Libroia (North Tonawanda), Kevin Miller (North Tonawanda), Alex Neutz (Grand Island), Greg Feathers (Grand Island), Carl Graff (Niagara-Wheatfield), Mo Bailey (Kenmore West), Scott Grandits (Kenmore West), Ethan Randall (Lockport), Justin Guyton (Lockport) and Vic Cacho (Kenmore East).

Noticeably missing from the team are a slew of Niagara Falls players including Kelvin Agee, Mike Crumpton and Tai Newsome, but the Wolverines will be tending to more important matters at the state final four in Glens Falls.

The second game at 2 p.m. features the ECIC II all-stars taking on the ECIC III all-stars, while the final contest at 3:30 p.m. pits the Yale Cup all-stars against the Monsignor Martin all-stars. Locals on the MMAA squad include Evan King (St. Joe’s), Reggie Martin (Cardinal O’Hara) and Mike Volpe (Niagara Catholic).

Tickets for the event are $3 for adults and $1 for children and are available at the door. Money raised will go toward a $500 donation to the Grabiarz School of Excellence to help send a student to Disney World.

Officials, announcers, scorekeepers and alumni association members donate their time for the event, Nagorski said.
