(Ransomville) - Stuart C. Hurtgam, age 80, of Ransomville, entered into rest on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a long illness. The son of the late Carl F. and Edith (Borget) Hurtgam, Stuart was born August 21, 1928 and raised on his family’s farm on Ridge Rd. He was a graduate of Wilson High School and a lifelong resident of Ransomville. A longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at North Ridge, he married Joan H. (Dent) Hurtgam there on November 6, 1948, and together they raised their children on the farm as well. Besides operating his fruit and dairy farm, Stuart worked for Tam Ceramics in Niagara Falls as a Dryer Operator for 32 years, retiring in 1990. Stuart enjoyed square dancing, playing pinochle and euchre. Being with his children and grand- children brought him his greatest joys. He will be sadly missed by his family. Joan predeceased him on November 23, 1986. He is survived by his children, Nancy (Greg) Moniger of Daphne, AL, Kevin (Pam) Hurtgam of Niagara Falls, Russell (Linda) Hurtgam of Youngstown, Paul (Sue) Hurtgam of Ransomville, William (Karen) Hurtgam of Youngstown, Diane (Wayne) Butz of Ransomville and Michelle (David) Brock of Lewiston; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Lois Batsleer. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville, on Thursday from 3-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17th at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Alexander Knowles officiating. Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd., Town of Cambria.
