Robert Charles Mitchell, originally of Youngstown, NY, died Sunday, September 30, 2007 after a brave and difficult battle with cancer. He was 60 years old.

Robert graduated Paul Smiths College with a degree in Forestry. Soon after, he served in the Navy during theVietnam War on CamRan Bay and was stationed on the SS Wood County based in Norfolk, VA. He was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer First Class and was a member of the American Legion.

As a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America, Robert earned the Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver Awards. He was also an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and conservationist. He passionately enjoyed American history, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and woodworking.

In 2002 he relocated to Charlotte, NC to continue to work for the National Gypsum Company at their new TIC facility as Plant Engineer. During his time in NC, he sat on the Board of his Homeowners' Association, joined 'The Friends of the Congaree' in SC and made many new friends in the process.

He was the son of Elizabeth and the late Robert F. of Youngstown. He also leaves behind Anne Marie and children Seth (Christine), Andrew (Michelle), and Hilary; along with his granddaughter, Lana; brother, David (Nancy), and their children Keith and Kathleen. He will be missed by family and dear friends from New York to North Carolina.

Services will be held October 13th at 11:00 AM at the Rutland-Corwin Funeral Home, 2670 Main Street, Newfane, NY 14108. A Charlotte, NC, Service will be scheduled for a later date.
