Jean Elizabeth Ames, age 81, of Avon Park, FL, died on April 7, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, August 24, 1927 to the late William and Lillian (Jeffords, Ripson) Dwinger.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, Donald E. Ames. They were married in Las Vegas on October 25, 1958. They lived in the Town of Lewiston and then moved to Avon Park in 2002. She was a cashier for many years at Loblaws grocery store and visited with the elderly in their homes. She was an excellent cook and a meticulous housekeeper. She enjoyed Country music, reading and traveling. She liked to play cards, bingo, the slot machines and Mah Jong. Above all, she cherished the many hours she spent with family and friends. Jean will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

Also surviving her are four children, James (Linda) Gooch, Jan (Dennis) Gaughan, Deborah (Frank) Johnson and Donna Ames-Cassick; four grandchildren, Keith Johnson, Donald Johnson, Jesse Gooch and Serena Mullen; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Della Gordenski and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by 11 siblings: Jenny Hopkins, Lenora Thompson, Ada Czerhak, Dorothy Lounsbury, Patricia Ann Houlihan, Lorraine Ripson, Harry Ripson, Lester Ripson, John Ripson, Russell Ripson and James Ripson (Nella, living).
