Gertrude S. Clapsattle, age 90 of Ransomville, died Wednesday July 2, 2008 in the Intercommunity Memorial Hospital in Newfane, after a brief illness.

Gertrude was born February 5, 1918 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Ross and Ruth Ann (Smith) Starkey. She was a graduate of Stella Niagara High School and on May 30, 1947 she married Clive P. Clapsattle and they had resided in Ransomville since 1954. Clive predeceased her on March 15, 1999. In the 1950¹s, Gertrude worked at the former Spirella Garment Co. in Niagara Falls and had waitressed at the Old Fort Inn in Youngstown in the 1960¹s.

She was the Registrar and member of the Niagara Falls Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Colonial Dames of America, and a member of the Ransomville Rural Retirees. She was a former member of Immaculate Conception RC Church in Ransomville. Gertrude was an active Genealogist as well. She enjoyed flower gardening and knitting baby hats for Mt. St. Mary¹s Hospital.

She is survived by two daughters, Pauline Hiam of Ransomville and Ruth LaRock of Murray, KY; her grandchildren, Ronald (Kelly) and Richard (Melanie) Hiam, Renee' (Richard) Gunby,

Robyn (Charro) Zimmerman, Ashley Clapsattle, Dan and Diane LaRock. She was predeceased by her son, Clive P. Clapsattle, Jr.

Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 5, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. James C. O'Connor officiating. Burial will follow in Acacia Park Cemetery, Town of Pendleton.
