(Albion) - Evelyn A. Collins, age 100, died March 17, 2008. Born February 17, 1908 to Volney and Marion (Davis) Collins. Miss Collins, a lifelong resident of Albion, was employed as a teacher and librarian for the Albion Central School District for 40 years. She was a 1930 graduate of the University of Rochester with a Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Language and had a Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of Albany.

Miss Collins had many interests in her life, among them was her garden, which she maintained until she was in her late 80’s. She was a member of the American Iris Society. Evelyn had a love of literature and was a voracious reader until her passing. She also had an extensive doll collection that included dolls sent to her from around the world by former students. Miss Collins was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Albion from 1922 to the present. Additionally, she enjoyed tracing her family tree and was a member of the Orleans Chapter of the D.A.R. Among her notable ancestors was Richard Warren, a Mayflower Compact signer/Plymouth Plantation resident and Gideon Olin, a Governor of Vermont.

Miss Collins leaves her sister-in-law, Virginia (Kenneth) Collins of Albion; her nephews and nieces, Robert (Peggy) Collins of Albion, Kenneth (Faith) Collins of Rochester, June (Rudy) Jansa of Florida, Grace Epstein of Rochester, Mary Jo (Lewis) Cole of Livonia and Jean (Peter) Wehnau of Florida; nine great-nephews and nieces; six great-great nephews and nieces.

Evelyn’s family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 W. Ave., Albion, Saturday from 11:00-12:00, where her funeral service will follow at 12:00. Interment will be at Mt. Albion Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Care Net Pregnancy Center of Orleans County, 243 S. Main St., Suite 100, Albion, NY 14411.
