WHEATFIELD: Pit bull reportedly attacks neighbor’s dog

Dog had been deemed dangerous by Wheatfield Town Court

A pit bull that had been deemed dangerous by town officials escaped from its yard Thursday night and attacked a neighbor’s dog.

A Clescent Drive man told deputies he was walking his 7-month-old German Shepherd on a leash in his backyard about 10:25 p.m. when the pit bull owned by his neighbor ran into the yard and began to attack the his dog.

The pit bull had its teeth around the German Shepherd’s neck and forced the dog onto its back, the report said.

The man said he was able to get the pit bull off his dog, but was bitten on the hand in the process. He told deputies he wasn’t sure which dog bit him.

He declined medical treatment at the scene. His dog did not require medical treatment.

The pit bull’s owner said he had been with his dog — which was leashed and muzzled — in his yard when he slipped on the ice, dropping the leash.

He told deputies the leash and the muzzle fell off the pit bull, which then ran across the street.

Deputies learned the pit bull had been deemed a dangerous dog by Wheatfield Town Court.

Both dog owners said their dogs were updated on all vaccinations.

The owner of the pit bull was advised to keep the dog confined until deputies could notify the Niagara County Health Department about the incident.
