Niagara Gazette — The Niagara University hockey team rallied late to cut its deficit to just one goal but Air Force responded with an empty-net goal followed by a shorthanded tally to beat the Purple Eagles, 7-4 in an Atlantic Hockey Association game Sunday afternoon in Colorado Spring, Colo.
With Niagara trailing 5-3 at about three minutes remaining in the third period, Niagara pulled goaltender Adrian Ignagni from the net for an extra attacker and Ryan Rashid scored to cut the lead to one goal.
Niagara then went on the power play but conceded a shorthanded goal that put the game out of reach.
Ignagni made a college career-high 37 saves and dropped to 1-2-1 on the season.
Pat Conte, Matt Chartrain and Mike Conderman scored Niagara’s other goals.
Niagara (1-3-1 overall; 1-1-1 AHA) will not return to game action until November 8 and 9, when the team travels to Columbus, Ohio for two non-conference game against Ohio State.
