Niagara Gazette — With Grand Island girls’ tennis taking two of three singles matches, the Wolvernines needed each of their doubles teams to emerge victorious in the match.
Niagara Falls’ (4-3) Elizabeth Kwon and Celsey Stahlman continued their impressive start to the doubles season and picked up their fifth victory as a duo. The Wolverines’ first doubles team of Madison DalPorto and Natalie Manning won as well, giving the overall win to Niagara Falls.
For Grand Island (4-3), Emilie-Jo Scheffler and Liana Buscaglia each earned victories in singles play. Niagara Falls’ lone singles victory came from Isabel Eligino, who won 6-1, 6-0.
Iroquois 0, Starpoint 0
Starpoint’s (3-3-2, 2-3-1 ECIC II) goalkeeper Sam Del Prince had four saves to preserve the shutout for the Spartans. Iroquois goes to 2-5-1, 1-3-1 in ECIC II.
Walsh 3, Niagara Catholic 1
Devon Defrank had the lone goal for Niagara Catholic (0-2-1).
Wilson 3 at Roy-Hart 0
Katlynne Tubo recorded her fifth shutout of the season for Wilson (8-0, 6-0 ECIC II) who continues its undefeated streak. Lauren Austin, Zipporah Barrett and Emily Paterson each had a goal in the victory as Roy-Hart fell to 1-5 in ECIC II.
Wilson 3, CSAT 0
The Lakemen (3-2) dominated CSAT, holding their opponents to under 10 points in two of the three games (25-8, 25-11, 25-7). Wilson’s victory was highlighted by senior Alyssa Schlosser rattling off 14 consecutive service points. Mercedees Reese added four kills.
Starpoint 237, Tonawanda 311
Starpoint (5-0) had all three medalists in the victory, led by Will Hoffman’s 36. Sean Brown and Andrew Murchison rounded up the medalists shooting 38 and 39 respectively.
Akron 5, Wilson 0
Claudia Stone recorded a hat trick in Akron’s 5-0 victory. She also recorded an assist as goalkeeper Victoria Triaga earned the shutout.
