BANDITS: Kilgour sets NLL wins record

Staff Report

Niagara-Wheatfield graduate Darris Kilgour became the National Lacrosse League’s all-time winningest coach Friday and added to his record with another victory Saturday.

Kilgour’s Buffalo Bandits beat the Toronto Rock 11-0 in overtime Friday at Air Canada Centre then beat the Boston Blazers 9-8 in overtime on Saturday to improve to 5-6 on the season and keep their playoff hopes alive.

With 95 career victories, Kilgour now has two more than Les Bartley, who coached the Bandits and Rock.

John Tavares, one of Bartley’s former players, scored the winning goal Friday with 25 seconds left in overtime. Tavares finished with three goals and three assists, while Mark Steenhuis had two goals and five assists.

Tavares also netted the overtime winner Saturday with 36 seconds left. It was his fourth goal of the game.
