Niagara Gazette

Niagara Gazette — Niagara University men’s and women’s soccer teams are both still seeking their first win of the season, as both dropped decisions at home and on the road, respectively, on Sunday.

The men fell to St. Bonaventure, 3-1, at Niagara Field. The Bonnies opened the scoring in the 12th minute when sophomore and Grand Island resident Kolby Banker headed a ball off a corner kick and put it into the net. Steve Carcaterro increased the visitors’ lead to 2-0, then Emmett O’Connor made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute.

Nicholas Watson scored Niagara’s lone goal in the 85th minute, denying Bonnies goalkeeper and Grand Island resident Jeremy Figler a shutout. Figler, who transferred from SUNY Buffalo, kept Niagara off the scoreboard in the first half, during which the Purple Eagles outshot St. Bonaventure, 8-5.

Niagara (0-2) hosts UMass-Lowell next Friday at Niagara Field beginning at 4 p.m.
