Niagara Gazette — There’s already some high school sports action underway even before the school bells ring to open the 2013-14 academic year.
Starpoint’s boys and girls soccer teams drew mixed results in their respective games at the ECIC-NFL Challenge on Friday.
The boys tied Kenmore East, 2-2. Mike Juszcack and KJ Maldiner netted Starpoint’s goals while Rich Brinkman had both goals for Kenmore East.
The girls fell to Niagara-Wheatfield, 2-0. Brittney Cristafenelli and Danielle Chatten scored for the winners, while Marissa Belardi made three saves in her shutout win.
• In other high school action, the Wilson girls soccer team shut out Tonawanda, 1-0. Tayler Devole scored the game’s lone goal, assisted by Kayla Neumann. Katlynne Tubo made seven saves for the winners, aided by strong defensive performances by Angela Goodman and Kaylee Stoelting.
Marco Napolitano rolled games of 226, 258 and 211 for a series score of 695 to lead all participants in the final summer session of the Guido’s Upholstery/Joe’s Guys Senior Men’s League at Rapids Bowling Center.
Dave Cuddahee rolled the week’s highest single game, a 279 which was part of his 649 series total.

Pete Ozzimo earned summer honors for his league-high average of 221.67 in 54 games. The first league-sanctioned 300 game came from Rich Santangelo, which represents the season’s high single result. Marco Napolitano had the high three game set of 781. The regular season, which runs 33 weeks, begins Sept. 5 at noon at Rapids. Any senior bowlers interested in joining can show up at that time.
