Jr. Thunderwolves, Jr. Purple Eagles win in youth travel baseball

Niagara Gazette — The Jr. Thunderwolves erased a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with a five-run burst, on their way to a 9-4 victory over the Northtown Nationals in the 14U division of the Clarence Travel Baseball League. 

Dawson Bailey drove home three runs, including the game winner, with his triple. Ben Serrano scored on a sqeeze bunt by Chris Ewing, who also struck out five batters in his 2 and 2/3 innings on the mound. Pat Mulligan and Dennis Gagliardo both had two hits.

16U travel baseball

The Junior Purple Eagles also rallied from a late deficit to win, 12-5, over the Buffalo Braves at the Lew-Port varsity field. Trailing 5-3 in the sixth inning, the Jr. Purple Eagles scored nine runs, with Justin LaRosa, Matt Schiavi and Mike MeLand all hitting two-run doubles. Jake Rizzo, Justin Nichols, Kyle Waple and LaRosa all had two hits, with Rizzo scoring three runs. Tyler Goodridge was the winning pitcher for JPE, who improved their record to 2-1 for the season.

10U travel baseball

The Lewiston Predators improved their record to 3-1 with a 16-4 win over the Amherst Panthers in the 10U Clarence Travel Baseball League. Vincent Mauro, Zach Brydges and Sam Nichols had three hits apiece, with Mauro and Brydges both scoring three RBIs. Justin Webber, Aidan Ward and Jacob Niccola all had two hits, with the latter two driving in two runs each. Carter Krawczyk and Zach Reed tossed scoreless innings for the Predators.

9U travel baseball

• The Cayuga-Mark Cerrone Heat improved its record to 4-1 following a 9-7 defeat of league-leading Lou Gehrig Red on Sunday. Pitchers Jaxson Hoyt, Anthony Lozina, Aaron Kifer and Nick Syposs combined to strike our 12 while allowing only two hits and two earned runs. Andrew Johnson had three hits for the Heat, while Morgan Zeintera and Kifer both recorded two hits. Kifer, Lozina and Sean Ulrich each drove in two runs. Ulrich’s RBIs helped the Heat come from behind and take the lead for good.

• Whirlpool Park defeated Tonawanda, 9-0. Dominic Contento, Matthew Cettato and Aidan Robins all got a hit for the winners.

Cayuga Rookie Baseball

The Niagara Falls Firefighters Association Angels defeated the A-Plus Moving Services White Sox. Gavin Cerrillo had five hits including a home run for the Angels. Chad Himmelback and Jason Cerrillo both had four hits. For the White Sox, Isiah Welch had three hits.
