Niagara drops three to Canisius in baseball

Niagara Gazette — BUFFALO — The Golden Griffins' baseball dominance over Niagara during the weekend continued Sunday as Canisius completed a three-game sweep of the Purple Eagles, winning the final game of their weekend series, 14-6, at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo.

Canisius catcher Mike Booth drove in three runs while five of his teammates all drove in two more runs apiece.

For Niagara, Ryan McCauley scored two runs and batted in another, while Joel Klock and Jeff Calhoon both scored two RBIs.

Earlier in the series Niagara squandered a lead and dropped the first game of a doubleheader, 4-3, before suffering a one-sided thrashing in the second game, 22-1.

The Purple Eagles (16-35 overall, 9-15 MAAC) complete their regular season later this week when they travel to Sacred Heart for a pair of doubleheaders, Thursday and Friday.
