Niagara Gazette — BASEBALL

Vincent Mauro's walk-off single helped the Lewiston Predators defeat West Seneca, 7-6, in the 10-Under Clarence Travel Baseball League. Zach Brydges scored the winning run off Mauro's hit. Lucas Eoute had two hits, including a triple that brought home two runs. Carter Krawczyk scored two runs for the Predators. Eoute and Krawczyk, along with Zach Reed, also threw scoreless innings from the mound as the Predators improved their record to 2-1 so far this season.

Elsewhere, the Junior Purple Eagles won their first game in the 16U Western NY Travel League, defeating the Niagara Junior Power, 3-1, at Lew-Port High School's varsity field. Four Jr. Purple Eagle pitchers combined to throw a two-hitter with Tyler Ford recording the win. Tyler Goodridge drove in two runs with a first inning single. Kyle Wapple scored the third Jr. Purple Eagle run. P.J. Anderson scored an RBI for the Jr. Power.

The Jr. Purple Eagles improved their record to 1-1, avenging a 7-3 loss to the Jr. Power the previous weekend.

SOFTBALL

The Collision Auto and Glass Red Sox defeated the Niagara Falls Teachers Union Royals, 22-17. Amber Dutton drove in two runs, while Alexia Rose added two hits. Olivia Stankovich struck out five batters during her 2 2/3 innings on the mound. The Royals' Jordyn Smith had three hits and three RBIs while Hailey Perry stole three bases. 

SOCCER

In local youth soccer action, the Niagara PAL Eagles 12-Under girls soccer team opened their season with a 6-0 win over the Pioneer Pumas. Kelsey Viele scored three goals while Sam Campbell contributed with three assists. Also scoring goals for Niagara PAL were Hanna Barker, Gabby Mitravich and Aleigha Gray. Mitravich and Gray also shared time playing goalkeeper, combining for the shutout in a game played at Fort Niagara.
