Green, Tanksley seek transfers from NU hoops

Niagara Gazette — The young unit that led Niagara University men's basketball to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season championship and a trip to the National Invitational Tournament in 2012-13 could potentially lose two of its key members.

Niagara athletics department spokesman Derick Thornton confirmed in a phone conversation with the Gazette on Monday that guardĀ Juan'ya Green and forward Ameen Tanksley have been granted their releases to transfer. It was not revealed whether the players offered an explanation nor is it known where the players may go next, if they are offered new opportunities elsewhere.

Green and Tanksley, both sophomores during the 2012-13 season, were the second- and third-leading scorers for Niagara, respectively. Green averaged 16.5 points per game along with 5 assists per game. Tanksley averaged 11.3 points per game and a team-leading six rebounds per game.

New head coach Chris Casey, who was introduced as Joe Mihalich's replacement on April 22, was unavailable for comment. According to Thornton, Casey was in Long Island taking care of some personal obligations but was expected back in Western New York on Tuesday.

The potential departures of Green and Tanksley, both Philadelphia natives, deal a blow to the Purple Eagles, who were expecting to lose only one player from the 2012-13 roster, senior Devon White.
