Niagara Gazette — Brianna Clark stepped to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and gave Starpoint softball something it hasn't had in years: a win over Williamsville South.
With the Spartans trailing by a run, down to their final out, Clark belted a three-run homerun over the left field fence and Starpoint held on, 17-15, for its first win over the ECIC II foe Billies since coach Joe Hill took over varsity four years ago.
Clark's homerun also helped the Spartans remain undefeated (10-0, 3-0 ECIC II) this season. It was her second hit of the day following a two-RBI single earlier in the game.
Allison Block chipped in four hits with three runs scored and Madison Clark crossed the plate four times, going 3 for 5. Emily Whitman also went 3 for 4 with three RBI in the win.
Niagara Falls 11, N. Tonawanda 0
The Wolverines (4-1 Niagara Frontier League) piled on 11 runs off 14 hits, led by Amanda Boyle's three RBI, and Marlee Hilliard went the distance in the circle, allowing just two hits to earn the league win. Jerri Ann Orfano added a two-run homerun and Carli Leo had a pair of RBI on two hits. The Lady Jacks fell to 0-5 in NFL play.
Grand Island 2, Ken East 1
Rosie Russell pitched a four-hit complete game with six strikeouts for the Vikings (3-2 NFL). Courtney Collignon was 2 for 4 at the plate, including the game-winning RBI triple while providing a solid defensive presence at third base. Christina Statalo pitched also pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs (2-3), giving up six hits while striking out three.
Nia.-Wheatfield 8, Lockport 3
Katie Mazierski went 3 for 3 and crossed the plate three times and Lexy Gibson added a triple, RBI and a stolen base while batting 3 for 4 to help the Falcons move to 4-2 in NFL play (5-2 overall). The Lions fell to 2-3 in the league.
