Bills hire new defensive coordinator & QB coach

Niagara Gazette — The Buffalo Bills named Jim Schwartz the team's new defensive coordinator late Friday and also announced the hire of Todd Downing as the team's new quarterbacks coach.

Schwartz most recently served as the head coach of the Detroit Lions, from 2009 until the end of the 2013 season. In the 2011 season he led the Lions to a 10-6 record and the team's first playoff appearance since 1999.

He will enter his 21st year in the National Football League. His previous experience also includes ten seasons with the Tennessee Titans in various defensive coaching roles and two-year stints with the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

Downing most recently served as the quarterbacks coach under Schwartz with the Lions.
