NU men's hoops beats Fairfield, 63-67

Niagara Gazette — Freshman Ramone Snowden led the Purple Eagles with 18 points, two of which were the game-winning score, as Niagara held back the host Fairfield Stags, 67-63, in Fairfield, CT on Thursday night.

Snowden’s go-ahead basket came as a tip-in after teammate Antoine Mason’s shot wouldn’t drop. Mason finished the game with 15 points.

Niagara (5-13 overall, 2-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) trailed the Stags (3-14, 0-7 MAAC) by one point, 29-28, at halftime. Fairfield jumped out to a 36-30 lead just over two minutes into the second half.

By the 4:04 mark of the half, though, Niagara had rallied to even the score at 38-38. They overtook the Stags and by the game’s next media timeout with 9:50 remaining, held on to a slim 49-48 lead.

The game stayed close, as Fairfield kept within three points of the Purple Eagles. Then, with two minutes remaining, the game was again evened at 61-61, and then 63-63.

Niagara took the lead for good with 26 seconds remaining when Snowden tipped Mason’s missed shot into the basket.

Snowden’s performance also included going 4-for-4 from three-point range and grabbing six rebounds, leading the team in both for the game.

The Purple Eagles will next travel to Hamden, CT to face Quinnipiac University on Saturday, with the tipoff set for 4 p.m.
