HIGH SCHOOLS: N-W wrestlers remain unbeaten

Niagara Gazette — The undefeated Niagara-Wheatfield wrestling squad will face its toughest test to date when it hosts Lewiston-Porter this afternoon.

The battle of unbeatens comes a day after both programs breezed through their latest Niagara Frontier League matches. The Falcons (4-0) pulled off a 42-21 win over Kenmore West Wednesday afternoon while the Lancers (5-0) were busy blowing out Kenmore East, 75-6.

Matt Chico (170-pound) and Warren McDougal (99) led the way for N-W, each winning by pinfall at 3:56 and 1:20, respectively, and Vinny Salvo defeated Christian Bauman, 4-3, in a close 113-pound matchup. Deinte Walker finished off his pin of Dan Chico 35 seconds into the 182-pound bout to lead the Blue Devils.

The Lancers benefitted from seven Bulldog forfeitures in their win while Nico Toliano (126-pound), Delbert Marshall (132), Andrew Shomers (138), Dylan Pryce (145) and Ryan Kromer (152) each added pins. John Dowdell and Jake Simmons earned decision points for Kenmore East.

The Niagara-Wheatfield and Lewiston-Porter match, rescheduled from an earlier date, is set to begin at 5 p.m.

Lockport 49, Niagara Falls 21

Six Lions earned pins and Dylan Nuhn edged out Quiant’e Wallace, 5-4, in the 195-pound matchup as Lockport claimed the league win. Marshall Taylor (220-pound), Marcelus Hinton (285), Mitchell Seaver (99), Thomas Wendt (126), Anthony Orefice (132) and Kirk Feeney (145) each won by pinfall in their respective matches. Donny McCoy (120) and Derek Linde (182) led the Wolverines with a pair of pins.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Usual suspects Keyonte Edwards and Jontay Walton chipped in 18 and 16 points, respectively, to lead the way as the Hawks (11-0, 4-0 MMA) doubled up the Patriots (4-4, 0-2) in a league contest to remain perfect on the season. Edwards also had eight rebounds and five steals while Walton added eight steals with seven helpers. Precious Adamson led Niagara Catholic with 16 points. O’Hara will host ranked large school Hamburg tonight at 6:30.
