Jr. Sabres regain first place with 7-1 win

Niagara Gazette — Max Mikowski and Darren McCormick both scored two goals, while Joseph Pianta made 29 saves, as the Buffalo Junior Sabres skated to a 7-1 win over the Pickering Panthers at the First Niagara Center in downtown Buffalo on Wednesday evening.

Josh Gabriel, Nico Gonzalez and Michael Ederer also scored goals for Buffalo.

With the win, the Jr. Sabres (23-11-4) climb back into first place in the Ontario Junior Hockey League's West Division with 50 points, one ahead of the Milton Icehawks. Buffalo, however, holds four games in hand.

The Jr. Sabres play their next two games on the road, at Orangeville on Saturday and then at Hamilton on Monday, before hosting their next game against Aurora on Jan. 21 at the Northtown Center at Amherst.
