The Niagara men’s hockey team is ranked No. 16 in the country in hte latest USCHO.com Division I Poll, tying a program record set in consecutive weeks in January, 2007.
In other national rankings, Niagara is tied for No. 15 in the NCAA Tournament Pairwise Comparison Ratings and slotted at No. 14 by D1Hockey.com
The Purple Eagles (10-2-3) are on an 11-game unbeaten streak, the longest in the nation, and have won eight games in a row heading into Wednesday night’s Atlantic Hockey matchup with RIT at Dwyer Arena.
Niagara is 9-0-0 in Atlantic Hockey play, outscoring opponents 34-8 during in those games.
Statistically, Niagara is ranked third nationally in winning percentage (.767), fourth in combined special teams (57.4), seventh in penalty killing (90.5) and ninth in scoring defense (2.00).
Individually, goaltender Carsen Chubak leads the nation in save percentage (.962), goals-against average (1.21) and shutouts (five). Giancarlo Iuorio ranks first in the country in goals per game (0.80).
The Purple Eagles will be holding a Teddy Bear Toss to benefit Carly’s Club for kids & Cancer Research at Roswell Park Cancer Institute at Wednesday’ game. Fans who bring a new, stuffed animal to the game will receive a discounted ticket and will be able to toss the toy onto the ice following the Purple Eagles’ first goal
