Niagara Gazette — Mike Vega of Niagara Falls slugged out a three rounds and stunned his more experienced opponent in the final round.
However, it was his rival, Rochester’s Sequan Felton, who was awarded the match by a 2-1 decision at Fight Night V at Casal’s Boxing Club in Niagara Falls. Vega’s bout was the main event on a full night’s schedule of fights in front of an estimated 500 viewers, a fight card that continued after press time.
Fellow Falls amateur boxer and 2013 Junior Olympic champion KShawn Agee continued his run of success. He scored a 3-0 decision over Ben Serrano of Buffalo-based West Side Boxing Club in a 132-pound contest.
Casal’s Boxing Club student Joey Krebs, 10, opened the 16-fight schedule with a victory by decision over Rochester’s Jay’Don Ruth. His 13-year-old brother, Jackson Krebs, was also victorious, scoring a 3-0 decision over Canadian opponent Owen Charles.
Another Casal’s boxer, Joe Tardibuno, scored a 3-0 decision over Nico Torres of Dunkirk in a 145-pound match.
Visiting boxers scored some of the wins over their hosts. Dunkirk’s Eddie Torres handed Casal’s boxer Giovanni Torres his first career loss by a 2-1 decision. Rochester’s Musa Mberwa won by decision over Cameron Miller.
In the lone female match, Canadian boxer Jessica Camara scored a 2-1 decision over Casal’s boxer Mikiah Kreps.
Superheavyweight Nolan Smith, meanwhile, scored a first-round knockdown of Buffalo’s Jack Johnson then controlled the final two rounds to earn the win over the St. John’s Boxing Club member.
