Niagara Gazette — Jr. Sabres lose exhibition in OT

The Buffalo Junior Sabres hosted a preseason exhibition game against the Rochester Junior Americans, losing 6-5 in overtime Wednesday evening at the Northtown Center at Amherst.

Defenseman Dennis Gilbert, a Clarence resident and senior at St. Joe’s Collegiate Institute, scored two goals including one on a 5-on-3 power play. North Tonawanda native Nick Smith, Josh Gabriel and Nolan Sheeran also scored for the Jr. Sabres.

The Jr. Sabres, led by head coach/general manager and former Sabres captain Michael Peca, compete in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, a Junior-A level league that develops players ages 16-20 for recruitment by college hockey programs.

Buffalo, the defending OJHL West Division and South-West Conference regular season champions, open their OJHL regular season on Sunday in Toronto at the North York Rangers.
