Niagara Gazette — LEWISTON — Freshman T.J. Cline, the son of Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman, is leaving Niagara University's men's hoops team and transferring to the University of Richmond, he revealed on his personal Twitter account Sunday evening.
Cline, who stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 220 pounds, becomes the third significant departure from the Purple Eagles in recent days. On Friday, former players Juan'ya Green and Ameen Tanksley completed their transfers from Niagara to Hofstra, following former Purple Eagles coach Joe Mihalich.
While officials at the University of Richmond did not return the Gazette's call Sunday night, an official within the athletic department at Niagara confirmed Cline was granted his release.
Cline was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Rookie team in 2012-13, averaging 7.9 point and 4.6 rebounds in 33 games.
As per NCAA transfer rules, he must sit out the 2013-14 season but will return in 2014-15 with three years of eligibility.
