Wager, Thilk named Hewitt Award winners

Niagara Gazette — Lauren Wager of Lockport and Tayler Thilk of Wilson were announced as the female and male recipients, respectively, of the $2,000 scholarships presented Sunday evening at the 48th Annual Thomas E. Hewitt Sports Awards, held at Niagara County Community College and sponsored by the Board of Associates of Mount St. Mary’s Hospital.

In all, 18 scholar-athletes were honored for their performances in the classroom, their respective athletic arenas and in the community.

The dinner and award is named for the late city editor of the Niagara Gazette. Judging was based on scholastic achievement, athletic achievement, school and community involvement, and a personal interview with the judges.

Profiles of Wager, Thilk and the other honorees are available online in the sports section of the Niagara Gazette's website, www.niagara-gazette.com.
